Cloud Computing Services Comparison (IaaS vs. PaaS vs. SaaS)

AiroServer's Blog

We have already explained about three main cloud computing services. These three services are IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. Now we are going to compare these three services.

Generally, Cloud services help companies focus on achieving goals and not on the things that may stop or slow the process. So, companies can stop worrying about things like preparing hardware and its maintenance or planning the needed resources just by using cloud services.

Each cloud service can offer you different levels of control, flexibility, and management. Going through the differences between these three services helps you choose the best one that matches your needs. As we already mentioned, there are three main cloud services and each of them is a part of the cloud computing stack.

IaaS vs PaaS vs SaaS

IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) usually offers network features, virtualizers, dedicated hardware, or storage. This service gives you the highest level of flexibility and control. AWS or Amazon Web Services is an example of IaaS. AWS users can ask for computing, network, storage or etc.

Using PaaS means that the client doesn’t need to manage the platform (hardware and the operating system). They can only focus on developing their applications. This can result in more efficiency since the client doesn’t waste their time worrying about preparing and maintaining the platform. Google app engine is a PaaS. It allows you to use google’s compute and storage infrastructure without owning or managing the infrastructure.

SaaS users are usually End-users. This is because with this service you can just use the application and not worry about anything else. An online email service is an example of this service. You can use these emails without hosting your own email server or other related things.

Which Cloud computing service is better?

With all the explanations and the picture above now we can say that none of these services are better than the others. Choosing a cloud computing service is just based on your preferences and needs.
