In our last post, we talked about things you need to do right after installing WordPress on your host. In this post, we are going to continue the same subject and tell you the rest of them.

3. Install a Theme

Now that you have done the other two steps, you need to take care of your website’s theme. The theme you’ll see right after installing WP is a default one and it’s much better that you change it to a theme that’s more compatible with your content and preferences. There are some free themes you can choose from or there are some customized ones that may not be free.

Choosing a good theme is really important. Because your theme is the first thing that anyone that visits your website sees. So choose the best theme considering your content and your budget.

4. Install Plugins

As we have also mentioned before, plugins can be super helpful in customizing your WP website. However, they can also be harmful so be careful to choose the best ones. We have a post about the best plugins you can have on your website and you can see it using the link below:

5. Securing your WordPress

The safety of your website always comes first. Having a secured log-in password and updating your WP and the plugins can help you a lot. there are some plugins that can help you with website security. One of these plugins is Two-factor authentication.

Another thing that helps a lot is SSL. When you have SSL all your links will turn from HTTP to https which is secured.

6. Add Website to Google Analytics

In order to analyze your website and see your views and other related stuff, you need to add it to Google analytics. So after installing WordPress and doing all the other steps, make sure to add it to Google analytics.

7. Always have a Backup

We always say having a backup is not an option, it’s a necessity! No matter what problem you’ll have, a backup can always help. So make sure to frequently create a full backup from your WP website.

Things to do After Installing WordPress

As we’ve mentioned multiple times before, WordPress is one of the most commonly used Content Management Systems (CMS) in the world. And that’s why we started this series of posts and we’ve been giving you lots of useful information about WordPress. After all of those posts now you may wonder what are the things you need to do immediately after installing WordPress. So, we ‘re gonna tell you the things you need to do right after WordPress installation on your host.

1. General Settings

In our post about WP settings, We explained all parts of WP settings and the things you can do with them. But the most important part is the General settings. One thing you need to do after installing WordPress is to log in to the dashboard and add the necessary information about the website, set the timezone and etc. If you want to know how you need to do these, read our post about General Settings.

2. Delete Unwanted things (Samples and Themes)

After installing WordPress, there’ll be some samples that come with WP by default. For example, when you log in for the first time, you’ll see a “Hello World” post that is a sample as your first post. However, these themes and samples are useless and you better get rid of them. To remove all sample posts, hover on posts from your menu and click on the “All posts” option. Now select all the sample files and move them to trash.

Another thing you need to remove is the default theme. To show that your website is unique and special, you need to change the theme to something other than the default one. To do this, hover on “Appearance” and choose “Themes”. Now delete the default theme.

Transfer uploaded files from a host to another

In our recent posts, we’ve given you so many different information about WordPress. We started with what CMS is and then explained different parts of WordPress. From its installation to its safety, its settings, its plugins, and more. In this post, we’re going to show you how you can transfer uploaded files from the WP host to another host/server.

Something that frequently happens to WP site owners is that their host’s storage reaches its limit. When this happens, the best thing to do is to transfer your uploaded files to another host like a download host. The great thing about doing this is that you won’t need to upgrade your main host anymore and according to affordable prices of download hosts, you’ll have a much better and more economical solution. Let’s see how you can transfer the uploaded files to a download host.

The first thing you need to do is to log into your hosting control panel. Find the FTP accounts in your control panel and create an FTP account just like the picture below.

In the Directory section, you’ll need to paste the exact destination path that you’ll want to transfer your files to. In the path that is written in the picture, the “uploadfile” folder will be created and the files will go there.

Now that you have an FTP account, go to your WordPress Dashboard and go to the Plugins tab. Search for and install the “Hacklog Remote Attachments” plugin. After the installation goes to its settings and add the FTP accounts information that you just created.

  • FTP Server: Type in the Server’s IP.
  • FTP Port: The default FTP port is 21.
  • Timeout: This is for the times that you’ll get disconnected for any reason. If you type in 30 in this box, you’ll see the timeout message after 30seconds of trying to reconnect.
  • Remote Base URL: your domain
  • Remote Path: The path you’re going to upload your files to. You should use the address you created at the time of adding the FTP account.

From now on, anything you upload to your website will automatically be uploaded to the download host and will no longer fill up the main host’s storage.

Switch from Gutenberg to the Classic Editor in WordPress

In the newer versions of WordPress, the default editor was changed from the classic one to a new one called “Gutenberg”. Although Gutenberg is a modernized editor, many users haven’t liked it so far. This is why this editor has got a low rating in user experience. That’s why today we’re going to show you how you can switch your Editor from Gutenberg to the classic one.

As we have mentioned before, WordPress is one of the most common CMSs that people use all around the world. When you use something frequently, you surely want it to be as customized and simple for you as possible. Some people have that feeling about Gutenberg editor and others don’t. This post is for those who love the classics. Let’s see how we can switch from the Gutenberg editor to the classic one.

Switch from Gutenberg to the Classic Editor

The easiest way to do this is by using a plugin. Go to the plugin tab from your dashboard and search for the ” Classic Editor” plugin. Install and then activate the plugin. This plugin gives you the option to choose the classic editor to write and edit your posts with.

To choose the Classic editor as your default editor, from the menu go to Writing Settings, and in the “Classic editor settings” section, choose the first option just like the picture below.

Just like that, you’ll be able to use the classic editor instead of the Gutenberg editor, to write and edit your posts.

How to Transfer a WordPress Website to Another Host

In our last posts, we have talked about lots of useful WordPress Plugins that each could be used for different purposes. So far you know lots of things about WordPress CMS like its requirements, its installation, its settings and etc. Now you may wonder what happens when you want to transfer your WordPress Website to another host? Let’s find that out in this post.

There are different ways to transfer a CMS website:

  1. Using Hosting Control Panel
  2. Using Plugins
  3. Using CMS itself

Using Hosting Control Panel

One of the easiest ways of transferring a CMS site is using the shooting control panel. The only thing you need to do is to create a full back up of your website and its database and then restore those backups in the control panel on the new host. However! This only works best when the control panel on both hosts are the same. If you restore a backup from a control panel in a different control panel, you may experience some major conflicts.

Using Plugins

There are some plugins that can help you easily transfer your WP site to another host. One of these Plugins is “Duplicator”. In this plugin, you can create a package from your website and it’ll scan it and give you an installer. Then all you have to do is to run that installer on your new host.

Another plugin that can help you with this is “All in one WP migration”. With this plugin, you can export all of your data and import them to the new host.

Using CMS itself

One of the best and safest ways of transferring a CMS website is through the CMS itself. In the WP dashboard, if you hover on the Tools option from the menu, you’ll see two options: Import and Export

First, you need to go to the Export panel, and in the “Choose what to export” select the “All content” option and then click on the “Download export file” button. Now you have a WXR or .XML file that contains all of your website’s content. Go to the new host and install WordPress. Then go to the dashboard and from the Tools menu choose Import this time. Now you can easily import the downloaded export file here.

In our last two posts, we introduced some of the most useful plugins that you can use in your WordPress site. Each plugin has its own benefits and usage. Some plugins are used for security, some for caching or creating backups and etc. According to your website’s content, you need to choose the best and safest plugins to manage your websites. But remember! it’s also bad to have too many plugins because some plugins may have conflicts and result in crashing your website. In this post, we’re going to introduce a social media plugin for your website.

You can always add any social media logo to any part of your website and link them to those specific pages using codes. However, there is an easier way to do this and that is by using a social media plugin. This type of plugins help you link your website to your social media without using codes. There are lots of different options for you but we chose only one of them to introduce to you.

The plugin that we want to introduce is the WP Canvas – Shortcodes. To install this plugin, you need to login to the WP dashboard and from the menu go to the plugins tab. Now click on add new and on the search bar type in the name of the plugin. Install the plugin and then go back to the plugin tab to activate the plugin. And then you can enter the settings of that plugin to customize it.

When you enter the settings for the WP Canvas – Shortcodes, you’ll see all the social media icons. Check the ones that you want them to be shown on your website. At the bottom of the same page find the ones that you’ve checked and enter the direct link for the related social media accounts. Last but not least, you need to choose where you want those icons. Go to the website customization section and choose the header or footer to add the icons there.

From now on, visitors can easily visit your social media accounts.

How to install a plugin on WordPress

Before we mention some amazing plugins of 2020, let’s see how you can find and use any plugins on your website. When you log in to your WP dashboard, on the menu there is an option called “Plugins”. If you click on it you can see all the installed plugins that you already have on your website. There is an “add new” button here that if you click on it you’ll be able to search any plugin’s name. After you found the plugin you want, click on the install now button. After the installation, you need to go to your plugins list and activate the plugin. Some plugins also give you the option to configure or customize some parts as you desire.

This plugin allows you to create and manage contact forms for your website. It also allows you to add captcha to all of your forms if you want.

How to Change Pass in WordPress?

In our previous posts, we explained different information about WordPress CMS. We started from its hosting requirements to its installation and security and then its General settings and finished with Discussion Settings. In this post, we’re going to show you how you can change the Admin’s password in WordPress. This is the password you use to login to the WordPress dashboard of your website.

How to change the admin’s password in WP?

There are two ways you can change a password in WordPress. One way is using PHPMyAdmin just like we do for Joomla. The whole process is the same for both Joomla and WordPress. Another way is through the WP dashboard. So, Let’s see how it’s done.

After logging into your hosting control panel, go to the database section and click on PHPmyAdmin and then select the database that you’ve had created and have linked to your WP user. Just like the picture below, on the drop-down menu select wp-user and then click on the edit button.

In the user_pass and the Function, boxes select MD5 and then type in your desired password.

The second way is through the Wp dashboard itself. However, if you have forgotten your password, the first way is your only option. Because in this option, you need to first log into the WP dashboard so you need your password. But if you are able to log in and just want to change your password, follow these steps.

After logging into the dashboard, go to the user tab from the menu, and just like the picture below generate a new password for the user you want and from them you can log into the user’s dashboard using your new account.

WordPress Settings (Discussion)

In our latest posts, we have been explaining different parts of WordPress Settings. We said that if you hover on the Settings option on the WP dashboard’s menu, you’ll see lots of options like General, Writing, Reading, Discussion, Media, Permalinks and etc. In this post, we are going to explain about the Discussion Settings.

The Discussion settings are all about comments. Let’s see what we have in this part.

When you click on The Discussion option from the menu, you’ll see this page:

These are what’s going to happen if you enable each option here:

Default article settings

  • First option: If you link to any blogs in your posts, they’ll be notified if possible.
  • Second option: If other blogs link to your new post, you’ll be notified.
  • Third option: You allow people to post comments on your blog posts.
Other comment settings
  • Anyone who wants to post a comment, has to give their names and Email address.
  • If you enable this option, only registered and logged in users can comment.
  • This option will automatically close the comment section of your new posts after 7 (more or less) days.
  • Every comment can only get 5 (more or less) replies.
Email me Whenever

As obvious by its name, here you’ll choose when you want to be notified by emails.

  • When someone posts a comment.
  • When a comment is waiting to be approved.
Before Comment appears

This section is super easy and you can choose to manually approve every comment or automatically approve a comment if the author has had approved comments before.

Comment Moderation

Here you can set that if a comment includes 2 links, it must wait for moderation. You can change the number of links and also add the links that you don’t want to show up in the comments, here in the white box.

Comment Blacklist

This is one of the most important sections to control the comments. You can add some phrases or words that need to be blocked. So every time a user uses those phrases or words, their comments will be blocked.
